EHS Annual Meeting

Sharing Humboldt County with the Rest of the World

The annual meeting of the Eureka Heritage Society will take place on Saturday, February 26 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Humboldt County Library, 1313 Third Street, Eureka.  Board members for the coming year will be nominated and elected, and reports given on activities of the Society.  The meeting is open to the EHS members at no charge.  Refreshments will be served.

The guest speaker will be Eric Hollenbeck, founder, and with his wife Viviana, owner and operator of the Blue Ox Millworks and Historical Park.  Eric, dubbed "The Wizard of Wood", has created a company which specializes in authentic reproductions of the wood accents popular in Victorian era homes.  His philosophy is that true restoration is properly achieved through the use of the very machines that created the works in the first place.  He has collected and painstakingly restored vintage woodworking machinery dating form the 1850's to 1948.  He also created a blacksmith/machine shop to manufacture necessary parts for this equipment.  Blue Ox Millworks includes a custom woodworking shop, a blacksmith shop, historical museum, and an accredited trade school where a new generation of young artisans is experiencing the rewards of producing highly skilled work.  Eric  has been involved in the restoration and preservation of many

architectural treasures, and we hope all of our members will enjoy the opportunity to hear this unique craftsman speak
